What Writing Surface is Best for You?

When it comes to collaborating in an office space, having a writing surface is key. But which writing surface do you choose? Multiple factors come into play, but what is most important to consider is your needs and potential usage. To ensure you’re having the best experience possible in your collaborative space, Interior Fusion will delve into the different writing surfaces available, as well as the pros and cons of each.

LCS Markerboards

One of the most recognizable writing surfaces in the world, LCS Markerboards (also known as dry-erase boards or whiteboards) offer versatility and stability. LCS Markerboards are a great option for businesses looking to create a cooperative work environment due to how easy it is to use. You can collaborate with your coworkers on a plethora of subjects and industries. Its lighter-colored surface reflects light, allowing it to be used as a projection surface that everyone can see. The dry-erase markers also come in multiple colors, which stand out and let you read it from a distance. Finally, its scratch-resistant material is easy to maintain and clean, limiting the possibility of ghosting.

The main issue with LCS Markerboards is the dry-erase markers you must use. They unfortunately dry out, which means you’ll have to replace them more frequently than you would chalk. There are also numerous types of markers available, which all impact the boards differently. Interior Fusion suggests using solvent-based markers, as their shorter drying time decreases the chance of the ink bonding to the surface and ghosting.

Glass Markerboards

If you’re looking for a writing option that’s both useful and aesthetically pleasing, glass markerboards are the way to go. With a nonporous construction, glass eliminates the potential of ghosting, as marker residue can’t get trapped beneath the surface like it can for LCS Markerboards. That means it can last for many years before showing any stains. Built to last in general, glass markerboards are sleek and oftentimes frameless, often appearing as if they are floating on the wall. You can also add almost any color you can think of to the back, ensuring a pop of color that catches the attention of anyone walking by.

Along with businesses, Interior Fusion recommends glass markerboards for medical settings, like hospitals. Their 100% smooth surface leaves no place for germs or bacteria to settle or multiply, creating a highly microbe-resistant surface. This is perfect for hospitals that need hygienic materials to prevent germs from spreading. The only thing to note is to be aware of where you place your glass markerboards. Glass is highly reflective, so avoid using them in places with large amounts of natural sunlight.

Chalkboards

Although chalkboards might be the oldest and original writing surface for collaboration, that doesn’t mean it has no more practical applications today. It offers the greatest level of artistic expression when compared to glass and whiteboards. Employees can create bold or thin lines and add shading, depending on how much pressure is used. If workers need to use drawings or diagrams to explain their ideas, chalkboards are the ideal option.

One thing to keep in mind when using chalkboards is the potential mess. Chalk can produce dust when writing or erasing, so be careful if you have electronics in the room. The dust can negatively impact them. The same can be said if an employee has breathing problems. Chalkboards may not be a safe option and should be replaced by glass or LCS Markerboards.
